The Patton Papers

This two volume set is great. Author Martin Blumenson was given access to General Patton's private papers by his family several years before the papers were made public at the Library of Congress. He has written a biography mostly made up of excerpts of the papers from 1885-1940 in Volume 1 and 1940-1945 in Volume 2.

Excerpts from Patton's Letters and Diaries during World War II were made into a book called "War As I Knew It" shortly after the war. This book goes deeper, not only with additional material during World War II, but extensive material in the years before the war. It is a great look into the mind of the great general.

I also recommend Patton: Ordeal and Triumph, Patton: The Man Behind the Legend 1885-1940, The Last Days of Patton, War as I Knew It, and The Unknown Patton.
